An indie comic weekend in Pittsburgh

Cartoonist Bill Griffith will make appearances at a ToonSeum fundraiser Friday and at the Pittsburgh Indie Comix Expo Saturday. 





Friday: The ToonSeum presents “45 Years of Zippy the Pinhead: An Evening With Cartoonist Bill Griffith” at Bricolage Productions, 937 Liberty Ave., 7-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 atwww.eventbrite.com; more at www.toonseum.org or 412-232-0199.
Saturday: Mr. Griffith will be at the featured guests table throughout the day of the Pittsburgh Indie Comix Expo, except for a free drawing class he will conduct from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Library, South Side. He also will speak about his graphic novel, “Invisible Ink,” at 7:30 p.m. as part of the evening events at PIX. John “Derf” Backderf (“Derfcity”) and Kazimieras “Kaz” Prapuolenis (“Kaz’s Underworld”) are among the other speakers on the evening program. Upcoming ToonSeum events:
Monday: The ToonSeum and Point Park University will offer a free lecture and panel discussion featuring cartoonist Keith Knight, creator of “The Knight Life,” “The K Chronicles” and “(th)ink.” The presentation, ”Red, White, Black and Blue: An Evening With Cartoonist Keith Knight,” will be followed by a panel discussion with Mr. Knight, Post-Gazette editorial cartoonist Rob Rogers and PG editorial writer and book editor Tony Norman. The event is 7 p.m. Monday at Point Park, University Center, GRW Theater, 414 Wood St., Downtown.
April 23: KA-BLAM!, the annual fundraiser benefiting the ToonSeum, returns to the Teamsters Temple Banquet Hall, 4701 Butler St., Lawrenceville, from 8-11 p.m. April 23. With the theme “CAUSE-PLAY” (like cosplay), guests are invited to attend in costume as their favorite pop-culture characters for the event, featuring live entertainment, celebrity Pictionary, costume contests, professional comic artists sketching, food and beverages and a silent auction. Tickets: $40, $75 for VIP entry, and $125 for VIP couples at www.eventbrite.com.
